Strč prst skrz krk!!

I don't get how words can exist without any vowels, but the Czechs sure make it happen a lot! "Strč prst skrz krk" is a vowel-free tongue twister that in English translates to "Stick your finger through your throat". I wonder if they actually say that as an insult or if it's just something fun to say. I feel like a cat purring when I try to pronounce it. Anyway, I bought two books and an app for my phone to try and learn Czech, but it seems so hard! When the spelling of someone's name could change one of 7 different ways depending on the type of sentence, it's way too confusing. BUT, I am determined to learn. My goal for the trip is to learn as much of the language as possible and not be shy communicating with the locals. I know it's a bit of a stretch since I will only be there for about two and a half months, but if I really try, I think I can pick up on it pretty well. I definitely need to hit the books and start learning some phrases before I go though, so that's my plan for the next couple of weeks.
Tomorrow is our final "official" meeting before we leave. I hope I can get all of my questions answered so I can feel a little more relaxed about everything. Other than getting a few things done, I am so excited to go!! I have been sitting bored at home since December and getting antsy. I haven't spent this much time at home since I graduated from high school and all this free time given me too much time to think about things (not just my trip but life in general), so I can't wait to learn about something new and enjoy myself for a while. It has been nice spending so much time with my family though, so I am really glad that I've been able to do that!!

I am very bad at counting down to things...but I do know there's less than 3 weeks to go!!

Snowed In?

A little snow out my front door
For the past week, I have been stuck in my house with some kind of cold. Then, the beautiful sixty-degree weather decided to take an unexpected turn towards "Winter Storm". The weatherman predicted about 5-10 inches of snow for our area so grocery store shelves were cleared and events were canceled/postponed, including the final orientation for our trip to the Czech Republic.
I am kind of bummed we didn't get to have our meeting yesterday, especially since it didn't start snowing until last night (although you never know because this is Nebraska. So the postponement was probably a good idea). I have so many questions still and lots to figure out, but time is running out. I've got just a little over a month to kick it in to gear and start preparing! I have done so much web-surfing for ideas these past couple of days but I feel like I still have no idea where to begin.
So at this point...I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Hopefully today while I'm "snowed in" I can get at least a couple things taken care of!
